  • question: We are loving your new single ‘Bon Iver Concert’, can you tell us a little about the backstory of the song? When was it written and recorded?
  • answer: Thank you! I wrote this song after a break-up. We were supposed to go to a Bon Iver concert together, but once we broke up, I left the tickets with him. A huge part of me always wondered if he would take another girl with him; who it would be; would he think of me at the concert; and — the wishful thinking part of me — would he would ask me to join him at the show after all? I recorded this with my producer Jackson Barclay and got my friend James Draper of Winterbourne to lend his beautiful voice to this song.
  • question: When did you know that you’d become a musician? What is your favorite childhood memory of playing music?
  • answer: I think I’ve always wanted to be a songwriter or musician in some capacity. I grew up surrounded by musicians in my family. Music was a huge part of our childhood so I was always writing songs and playing music from a really young age. I think my favourite childhood memory of playing music was when I asked my dad how to play a song on guitar. Instead of showing me the chords he gave me the guitar and told me to play along until the chords sounded right. I remember feeling so frustrated because I just wanted him to tell me! But after fiddling around I managed to figure out how to play the song by ear. I don’t even remember what song it was that I wanted to learn but I’ll never forget my dad teaching me to play music by ear, not by knowledge, and I think that has informed so much of my songwriting.
  • question: Who are your most listened to bands and artists of all-time? Who are your most listened to currently?
  • answer: My most listened to artists of all time would have to be Bon Iver (because, obviously haha), Sufjan Stevens, Carole King and Phoebe Bridgers. But artists I am loving at the moment are Ethel Cain, Noah Cyrus, Gracie Abrams and Julia Jacklin.
  • question: Where do you live and what do you like most about the area? If you relocate to anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
  • answer: I live in Sydney, Australia. If I could relocate to anywhere it would be either New York City or Paris! I love the hustle of NYC. There’s always something exciting happening. You can never be bored! But I love the romanticism of Paris. The French know how to live!
  • question: Is the breakup on ‘Bon Iver Concert’ a real experience you went through? What is the ultimate goal for your solo project?
  • answer: The premise of Bon Iver Concert is definitely based on my reality, but I hope it is a song that resonates with people all over. My goal is to make music for the rest of my life, whatever that looks like. Thanks so much for chatting!
