- question: We are loving your new single “Garbage”, can you tell us a little about the backstory of the song? When was it written and recorded?
- answer: My new song “Garbage” was written on a lonely drunk night to be very honest. The only way to stop my waves of sadness is to write about it, only this time the song become much more. I had realized in the morning my life was perfectly captured into a 4 minute song, I know I had to release it. From speaking beyond my past into the present, highlighting the good and bad moments working in the music industry, and simply describing the fear of giving up. I have always had this dream, and like many others with soaring aspirations, I know how it feels. Giving your all constantly, then being let down. I only ever want to give my audience a reason to keep trying, to have hope. Sometimes all you need is just one person to care.
- question: If you were to create art in a different medium outside of music, which would it be? Why would you choose that medium to express yourself through?
- answer: Not only am I a singer/songwriter, I have always loved to paint, and just like music, make my visions come to life. My high-school years may of sucked a little more if I didn’t have painting class. My school provided not only the best art teachers, but the most caring and companionable educators I probably will ever come across. Painting not only gives me another way to express how I accurately feel, but gives me the chance to do it in an abstract way.
- question: What are some of your favorite albums? Who is your biggest musical influence?
- answer: I’d have to say some of my favorite albums are a variety of many different genres. Starting from Queen’s ‘A Night At The Opera’, to Gracie Abrams ‘Good Riddance’. I can’t pick a favorite, I have too many songs filed within my mind. My biggest musical influence on the other hand, is a very hard question for me. I would like to say my father, if he hadn’t picked up a guitar a decade ago, I probably wouldn’t have either. His cover band may never break the internet, but he sure made an impact in my life. As for music I listened to as a child, John Mayer always lit up my mind. Many songs of his remind me pain can become beautiful pain, my favorite is his live performance ‘In Your Atmosphere’.
- question: What is your favorite thing to do with friends? What is a good memory you have spending time with them?
- answer: Lately I haven’t been seeing as many friends, I certainly miss them and wish to see them soon. Instead of mentioning some of my favorite things to do when I am with them, I’d rather share a memory. It’s difficult to pick one, out of many years and dead house parties spent with everyone. I must admit the best memories come sophomore year of high school. Just getting our licenses and buying cheap booze out of sketchy drive thru’s. Everything was simple then. My best memories with friends were created in that time frame, of course my future had a lot more memories planned for me. I am grateful for all of them.
- question: If you could grow up in a different generation, when would it be and why? What is your ultimate goal for KIITA?
- answer: Hard to say, I haven’t really thought about it. I’m thinking somewhere in-between the 80’s and 90’s. Certainly before social media was born, I think a lot of our generations unhappiness is caused by social media, and the pushed desire to “fit in”. Of course I can’t travel back in time so I guess for now, I’ll have to stay. My whole life my “plans” have changed. I could say my biggest dream would be to move to the big city and have a thriving music career, but what musician doesn’t want that? From singers, to guiatrists and all in-between, we all share one thing in common. We have an urge to grow, musically and mentally. Whatever it takes, we’ll be up for it. It’s not about the destination, it’s about the journey. I believe the little steps, and the simple mistakes make us who we are.
