Gabriel Simone

  • question: We are loving your new EP ‘COYOTES COME OUT AT NIGHT’, can you tell us a little about the backstory of the EP? When was it written and recorded?
  • answer: Thank you so much! the EP was written over a couple months last fall after a tour I was on got canceled because our van got robbed. The silver lining was it gave me time I didn’t think I’d have to work on recording. This also coincided with some things in my personal life that made me realize what I thought I wanted wasn’t what I want anymore.
  • question: What are some of your favorite albums? If you could collaborate with any artist or band ever who would it be?
  • answer: So many to choose from but always at the top is “Grace” by Jeff Buckley. It just caught me at the perfect time. Hmm, if I could collaborate with anyone I would probably have to say David Bowie or Smokey Robinson. We could be a power trio.
  • question: What did your childhood consist of? Where do you reside and what’s the music scene like?
  • answer: I grew up on the border of Philadelphia so as a teenager I went to DIY basement shows on the college campus’ in town and then eventually lived in a warehouse venue. The Philadelphia DIY scene was everything coming up, so many sick bands, shows most nights of the week, community. Now I live in Los Angeles and the music scene is the music industry so everyone calls it a career and takes it really seriously. I’m so thankful I’ve found a great community of friends and artists of all kinds out here because this scene feels like something you could easily get lost in.
  • question: What is “DOG NAMED SNAKE’ about? Who produces, mixes and masters your music?
  • answer: “DOG NAMED SNAKE” is about wanting something you can’t have. On this project I wrote and produced all the music along with added production from my friends and fellow producers No Love for the Middle Child and Maxwell Urasky. It was mixed by the wiz Danny Parlay and mastered by the best Ryan Schwabe.
  • question: Did you roll down the hill in your music video or was that a stunt double? What is your ultimate goal for your solo project?
  • answer: Haha, that was a stunt man by the name of Chris Torres! He did it without a second thought, truly the coolest. The ultimate goal is for someone to give me money to make the art I want to make. Not to get rich but to have access to the resources to make my wildest ideas exist in the real world. That would be sick.
